STATIONS: PLEASE REPLACE AD COUNCIL HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS SPOTS

It has come to our attention that some stations around the state are airing spots provided by the Ad Council and the NAB on Hurricane Preparedness. There are two spots, only one of which is sponsored by the NAB.

These spots direct Alabama listeners and viewers to a New York based website for preparedness information.

The Alabama EMA is participating in the ABA PEP program with Hurricane Preparedness spots which direct your listeners and viewers to Alabama based information. This is very important. IF we do have a storm this year, our residents need to know where to get information specific to their own communities.

Please support LOCAL efforts to inform your listeners/viewers about preparedness and emergency information . Please replace the Ad Council spots with Alabama EMA spots provided by the ABA. If you do not have those, contact Cindi immediately at 800-211-5189, or download them here:

Five Years After Katrina: Radio's Role Remembered

From NAB EVP Dennis Wharton: Given the recent debate over radio-enabled mobile phones and the role of free and local radio during times of crisis, you might be interested in watching this three-minute video from five years ago. The video features excerpts from the September 7, 2005 broadcast of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams , and explains in detail the important lifeline service provided by local radio stations before, during and after Katrina.
