Brett Tannehill

Podcast Pros Panel

Brett Tannehill is a 21-year radio veteran who has won more than 30 broadcasting awards including a National Edward R. Murrow award and the RTNDA Unity Award for Excellence in Diversity Reporting.

He’s currently the General Manager at 89.3 WLRH Huntsville Public Radio, which is Alabama’s first public radio station, where he has played a key role in launching three locally produced programs that cover news (The Public Radio Hour), arts, culture and society (The Arts Underground) and original music (Valley Sounds) in the Tennessee Valley.

Most recently, Valley Sounds was named Best Podcast in Large Market Radio by the Alabama Associated Press. Valley Sounds is produced by a volunteer team of podcasters in Huntsville and represents a true collaborative spirit among diverse segments of the community. Valley Sounds has also played a key role in helping WLRH reach new audiences and gain public exposure with new supporting members. The show also has hosted a local music festival and produces a local music compilation called Local Aliens each year. Public radio listeners are huge consumers of podcasts, both local and national, so WLRH is striving to create content to stay connected with these media consumers. WLRH currently offers four podcasts.

In his non-radio life, Brett enjoys golf, music, cruising with his 14-year-old and playing in the flowerbeds. As a former landscaper, one of his next goals is to create a new program and podcasting exploring landscapes and natural areas of north Alabama.
