Alabama born and East Nashville song craftsman, Paul McDonald is a creative force constantly in motion. He was raised on southern rock, roots, country, and gospel music intertwined with the late 60’s & 70’s Laurel Canyon scene.
He started writing songs at 15 and by his early 20’s he had formed the band Hightide Blues turned The Grand Magnolias and was touring relentlessly throughout the southeast and nationally, but as time moved on, Paul found himself searching for something deeper: finding his own voice. With his first full length album “Modern Hearts”, Paul brings a new flavor of alternative rock with southern swagger.
The 14-track body of work represents a full-spectrum of emotions, from soulful and sorrowful tracks, to invigorating new-life anthems, to meditative mid-tempo numbers. Produced by Jordan Lehning (Rayland Baxter, Kacey Musgraves, Delta Spirit), McDonald enlisted an all-star cast of musicians to help shape his narrative. Each song, forged of equal parts of the singer/songwriter’s confessionalism & rock and roll irreverence, is brought to life by lifting arrangements and refined vocal delivery.
