Granted, the games he called weren\u2019t aired on any television or radio station, but he couldn\u2019t have been more serious about his make-believe broadcasts. This man has lived and breathed sportscasting his entire life and has proven that dreams really can come true. The Alabama Broadcasters Association is more than pleased to induct Andy Burcham into the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up listening to talk radio as a kid,\u201d say Burcham. \u201cMy father brought home an LP of the 1967 St. Louis Cardinal highlights, and I listened to it over and over and over. And I can tell you at age six I knew that that&#8217;s what I wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34784\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34784\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-34784\" src=\"http:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-as-student-broadcaster-300x232.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-as-student-broadcaster-300x232.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-as-student-broadcaster.jpeg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34784\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WISU<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOne of the pivotal Christmas gifts that I ever received was a brand-new RadioShack cassette tape recorder that came with the microphone. I might have been 10 or 11 when my grandmother gave me that tape recorder and I flat out wore it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-34786\" src=\"http:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-bcast-team-300x199.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-bcast-team-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-bcast-team-1024x680.png 1024w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-bcast-team-768x510.png 768w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-bcast-team.png 1079w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Burcham is a native of Nashville, Indiana and got his broadcasting degree from Indiana State University. He had a 12-year run with the Auburn Network, managed WANI, worked for Tiger Communications and Fuller Broadcasting before going to Auburn University.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s currently the voice of Auburn Football and the Men\u2019s Basketball and Baseball programs and calls Women\u2019s Basketball games \u2013 something he\u2019s done for 31 years. In addition to his play-by-play responsibilities, Burcham hosts or co-hosts a slew of coach\u2019s\u2019 shows and podcasts.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Fuller, former president and CEO of Fuller Broadcasting Company, says he knew early on that Burcham was going to be something special.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a little more serious about it than some of the other young people that worked with us at the radio station,\u201d explains Fuller. \u201cWe would pick at him a little bit and tell him to lighten up, but he wanted to be good. He wanted to be great.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-34782 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-female-bb-player-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-female-bb-player-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-female-bb-player-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-with-female-bb-player.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fuller says his professionalism and talent make him a perfect hall of fame inductee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndy has the ability to paint word pictures of the action,\u201d he says. \u201cI think that&#8217;s what makes them one of the best play-by-play announcers in America because you can be court side with him at the Final Four or in the fourth quarter of the Auburn &#8211; Alabama Iron Bowl game and he has that ability to put you right there in the middle of the action. A lot of play-by-play folks would kill to have that talent.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m humbled by this,\u201d says Burcham. \u201cI&#8217;ve worked in radio since I graduated from Indiana State in 1983 and it\u2019s special because the bulk of my radio career has been in the state of Alabama. This has been my home. I&#8217;m thrilled. I really am. It means a great deal.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-34781\" src=\"http:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-in-booth-at-football-stadium-258x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-in-booth-at-football-stadium-258x300.jpeg 258w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-in-booth-at-football-stadium-880x1024.jpeg 880w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-in-booth-at-football-stadium-768x894.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/al-ba.com\/wp2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Andy-in-booth-at-football-stadium.jpeg 1170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 258px) 100vw, 258px\" \/>The friendships Burcham has formed along the way are also very meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Pat Dye to Joe Champi, to Hal Baird, to Nell Fortner, certainly Butch Thompson \u2026 all of these coaches \u2026 it can be more of a friendship than just a professional relationship,\u201d says Burcham.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd there\u2019s also a friendship between sportscasters,\u201d says Burcham. \u201cI&#8217;m very good friends with Chris Stewart at Alabama. I&#8217;m really good friends with David Kellum at Ole Miss, and Jeff Dansler, at Georgia. I know what they&#8217;re going through in their career and in their life because they&#8217;re spending a great deal of time away from their families, too. And they&#8217;re going through everything that I\u2019m going through. It&#8217;s a unique fraternity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m not kidding you; he&#8217;s one of the finest people that I&#8217;ve ever known,\u201d say Fuller. \u201cIntegrity and honesty &#8211; that&#8217;s just a couple of his attributes. He&#8217;s the kind of guy that you like to have as a friend.
