\nThe WALA Sports Reporter (Multi-Media
\nJournalist) researches, writes, reports, limited anchor duties, shoots video
\nand edits news local material for television newscasts and all WALA news
\nplatforms, including digital and smart phones. The successful individual will
\nfurnish a wide variety of sports content either working alone or in tandem with
\nother field personnel. This position coordinates with Content Center\/Assignment
\nDesk and team of multi- media producers. The Newsperson contributes live shots
\nutilizing microwave, satellite and other technology for feeding stories to
\nContent Center. The individual will be called upon to represent WALA in public
\nin a professional and courteous manner.<\/p>\n

Experience:
\nWrites, reports, shoots and
\nedits video news stories from concept to finish; contributes copy sports stories
\nto newscasts and digital platforms on a daily basis. Performs live reports on
\ndaily basis. Generates sports story ideas, cultivates local sports sources and
\nremains knowledgeable regarding places, events and people in the local sports
\ncommunity.
\nMaintains contacts within
\nbusiness community to report promptly on new or continuing sports events.
\nProvides daily story notes
\noutlining ideas for future sports stories. Passes along facts uncovered
\nconcerning ongoing projects. Provides progress reports on sports story checks.
\nShares information relating to upcoming events, meetings or story developments.
\nPresents stories via on air, live from the set, live remotes or live indoor
\nlocations.
\nServes as community ambassador for the news department. Responds to
\nconcerns of viewers. Makes personal appearances on behalf of the station. Attends
\nstation sponsored promotion events as scheduled.
\nRequirements:
\nBachelor’s degree in
\nBroadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training
\nand\/or experience.
\nAt least two years
\nexperience in broadcast journalism. Experience reporting (MMJ) sports at a
\ncommercial television station preferred.
\nMust possess advanced
\nunderstanding of legal and ethical issues impacting journalism. Ability to
\ncombine words and pictures into informative and interesting sports stories.<\/p>\n
Advanced knowledge of the locale, governing bodies, demographics and public
\nfigures.<\/p>\n
Ability to edit stories as necessary.<\/p>\n
Ability to perform quality work in high pressure deadline situations.<\/p>\n
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.<\/p>\n
Must possess valid Driver’s License.
