\nThis role is for a journalist who writes with authority, thinks strategically about audience, and moves confidently in fast breaking news situations. You will help shape what North Alabama reads, watches, and engages with every day \u2014 on web, mobile, social, and streaming platforms.
\nWhat You\u2019ll Do
\n\u2022 Write, edit, and publish original and engaging stories for WHNT.com and other digital platforms, from breaking news to enterprise and explanatory reporting
\n\u2022 Make real time editorial decisions during breaking news, balancing speed, accuracy, and context
\n\u2022 Curate and manage homepage layouts using audience data, news judgment, and editorial priorities
\n\u2022 Monitor local, regional, and national news sources to identify stories that matter to our audience and opportunities for exclusives
\n\u2022 Optimize content for search, social, and mobile platforms without sacrificing journalistic standards
\n\u2022 Act as a digital steward of the WHNT brand, ensuring all content meets high standards for clarity, accuracy, and credibility
\n\u2022 Collaborate with newsroom leaders, reporters, producers, and digital teams to execute coverage plans
\n\u2022 Analyze traffic trends and audience behavior to inform both daily content decisions and longer term strategy
\nStreaming & Live Coverage
\nAs part of WHNT\u2019s digital first commitment, the Digital Content Producer plays an active role in our streaming operation. Responsibilities include:
\n\u2022 Creating, uploading, and scheduling content for our streaming app
\n\u2022 Assisting with and running live breaking news update streams from the newsroom\u2019s OBS desk
\n\u2022 Helping innovate how local news is presented in live and on demand digital formats
\nWhat We\u2019re Looking For
\n\u2022 Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong news judgment
\n\u2022 Experience working in a newsroom or daily news environment; web first experience is strongly preferred
\n\u2022 Working knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style
\n\u2022 Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or Canva; basic HTML experience is a plus
\n\u2022 Strong social media instincts, including experience publishing and monitoring content on platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok
\n\u2022 Comfort working multiple stories at once in a deadline driven environment
\n\u2022 A collaborative mindset and the ability to take feedback professionally
\n\u2022 Curiosity, accountability, and a clear understanding of why local journalism matters
\nRequirements
\n\u2022 Degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (equivalent professional experience considered)
\n\u2022 Live, working web samples required; newsroom or digital news experience strongly preferred
\n\u2022 Willingness and ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
\n\u2022 Ability to learn new tools and technology quickly and independently
