WBRC 6 News is on the hunt for a news producer who sees rundowns as a blank canvas\u2014not just a checklist. We’re looking for someone who brings bold editorial instincts, strong news judgment, and the creativity to shape fast-moving, high-impact newscasts that serve and surprise our viewers. You’ll have access to multiple live capabilities and a team that thrives on urgency, clarity, and storytelling that goes beyond the obvious. This isn’t a plug-and-play role. We want someone who takes initiative, thinks critically, and isn’t afraid to make bold editorial calls. If you love building a show from the ground up and making each newscast better than the last, this is the place for you.<\/p>\n
Duties\/Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:<\/p>\n
What you’ll do:
\n* Use your editorial judgment to help decide what makes the show\u2014and what doesn’t.
\n* Work closely with reporters and managers to build fast-paced, impactful, and original newscasts.
\n* Keep a close eye on social media to spot trends, find fresh angles, and highlight the stories people are talking about.
\n* Get creative with visuals\u2014think graphics, viewer photos, webcam interviews, and anything else that brings a story to life.
\n* Write for all platforms, from web to social, and post with visuals and video that grab attention.
\n* Interview subjects and dig into stories to make sure they’re accurate, fair, and worth watching.
\n* Pitch in on live breaking news and special coverage\u2014sometimes unscripted, always high-stakes.
\n* Work with reporters and producers on promos, teases, and content development.
\n* Follow up on tips, chase leads, and help find the next big story.
\n* Make smart, fast decisions under pressure\u2014especially when things change at the last minute.
\n* Write clean, clear copy across platforms, even when the deadline clock is ticking.
\n* Follow journalistic and legal guidelines.
\n* Edit video for both broadcast and digital.
\n* We’re looking for someone curious, collaborative, and confident\u2014a critical thinker who’s ready to jump in, take ownership, and elevate every show they touch.<\/p>\n
Qualifications\/Requirements:<\/p>\n
* The successful applicant’s background must include a minimum of one year of experience in a newsroom.
\n* He\/she must be a self-starter with a passion for news.
\n* He\/she must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and overnights when needed.
\n* The position is not for a beginner.<\/p>\n
