Sports Director\/Anchor
\nWDHN, the ABC affiliate in Dothan, AL has an immediate opening for the position of sports director\/anchor.
\nPosition Summary:
\nThe sports director\/anchor produces and anchors sports reports for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. This position reports to the news director.<\/p>\n
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
\n\u2022 Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms.
\n\u2022 Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
\n\u2022 Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
\n\u2022 Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating sports programming and other content.
\n\u2022 Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
\n\u2022 Works closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage.
\n\u2022 Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
\n\u2022 Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
\n\u2022 Shoots video for sports reports.
\n\u2022 Sets up, composes and executes video shots.
\n\u2022 Maintains video equipment with the direction of engineering department.
\n\u2022 Edits video clips for television broadcasts and E-Media content.
\n\u2022 Writes stories for the website and other E-Media platforms.
\n\u2022 Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.<\/p>\n
Requirements & Skills:
\n\u2022 Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
\n\u2022 Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
\n\u2022 Fluency in English.
\n\u2022 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
\n\u2022 Superior on-air presence.
\n\u2022 Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
\n\u2022 Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
\n\u2022 Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
\n\u2022 Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
\n\u2022 Flexibility to work any shift.<\/p>\n
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
\nThe Sports Anchor must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Sports Anchor must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.<\/p>\n
