WVSM Rainsville celebrates 50th anniversary

wvsmWVSM Radio in Rainsville, Alabama will be celebrating fifty years of broadcasting on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Bill Huber became interested in radio during his service in the Korean War, he was a radio interceptor. So, the dream began.

Bill got a job with local radio station in his home town of Scottsboro, AL and then in 1965 started to pursue his dream of owning a radio station. WVSM 1500 AM signed on the air Tuesday, May 16, 1967 with the format of country music and then in 1982 the format was changed to Southern Gospel.

Bill Huber passed away in January 1990, the Huber Family still owns and operates WVSM. Bill had always wanted an FM station in Rainsville so another dream was fulfilled on October 6, 2016 when WVSM signed on the air with an FM translator Rejoice 103.1.

WVSM is so excited about this great mile stone and we are having a big 50th Anniversary party from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. There will be lots of giveaways!!! Weather permitting, we will be broadcasting outside and we will have an inflatable for the children.

WVSM would like to thank ALL of our listeners and customers for a GREAT 50 years!
