Voncile Pearce was born in Gilbertown, AL, attended the University of Alabama with a BA, MA Post-Grad work in Math. She taught math at a Junior College and became involved in the broadcasting business through her husband Houston Pearce. In 1988, she started working full time with Houston and became CEO of Radio South, Inc handling their AM and FM radio stations in AL and MS. It’s a family business that includes their son Dean. The family has been in and out of ten different markets over the years. Houston and Voncile have not been active in the business since selling the Tuscaloosa cluster to Citadel in 2006.
Voncile has been a leader in the broadcasting industry supporting education through serving on the Alabama Education Foundation Board, Alabama Broadcasters Association Board, and The University of Alabama School of Community Board of Visitors for approximately 12 years and West Alabama Arts Council for eight. She was an instrumental member of the Radio Music License Committee in the 1980s, helping to make changes in contract s more favorable to broadcasting.
Her favorite thing about the industry is seeing young people finish college and find their place in broadcasting. The most interesting part of broadcasting to her is witnessing all the technological changes in the industry. Voncile is an inductee into the first ABA Hall of Fame Class of 2008.
Her secret desire is to take art classes and what most people don’t know about this leader in the industry is she is very shy. Voncile and her husband Houston have three children Christie Myers, Dean Pearce and Susan Arnold. They have 6 grandchildren, five boys and one girl.
