POSITION SUMMARY:
Able to gather, understand, and interpret weather data for the viewing public. Knowledge of science of meteorology. Knowledge of and experience with state-of-the-art computer weather graphics systems. Present weather information with authoritative, credible style, including immediate warnings/alerts. Write and publish weather information to all multi-media platforms. Assist as needed with station promotions and personal appearances, including field reporting on weather-related issues designed to enhance image of TV Alabama and self. Represent TV Alabama at various public community events. Geographic knowledge of coverage area. Disseminate other news information to viewers as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum 2 years Weather/Traffic anchor.
2. Strong communications skills and understanding of computer graphics.
3. College degree in Meteorology/Earth Sciences, Journalism, Mass Communications, or equivalent work experience.
4. AMS or NWA seal preferred.
5. Geographic knowledge of coverage area.
6. Able to attend work regularly.
7. Ability to work irregular hours, week-ends, and holidays.
8. Possession of a valid drivers license and able to operate company vehicles in a safe manner.
9. Capable of handling the physical and mental requirements including:
•Ability to orally communicate in English;
•Ability to read computer monitor information (words and data);
•Ability to hear detailed spoken communication;
•Ability to remain sedentary;
•Ability to perform manual dexterity tasks with hands and fingers;
•Ability to analyze data, concentrate, reason, and write; and
•Ability to perform under emotional stress.
