Citizen of the Year, Broadcaster of the Year, Hall of Fame inductees to be honored at ABA Conference

jimmy_rane_coy14The Alabama Broadcasters Association will honor Jimmy Rane, also known as “The Yella Fella,” as its Citizen of the Year during the group’s annual meeting. The Abbeville resident and President and CEO of the Great Southern Wood Preserving company is being honored for his many philanthropic endeavors which improve the lives of those in his community and across the state. Mr. Rane will be recognized at a luncheon on Saturday, August 16th at the Hyatt Regency in Hoover.

In addition, the Alabama Broadcasters Association will name its Broadcaster of the Year at a luncheon on Friday, August 15th at the Hyatt Regency. As is the association’s tradition, this honor will be a surprise to the recipient.

Also at the Friday luncheon, three people (in addition to the Broadcaster of the Year) will be inducted into the Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

David Baughn of Tuscaloosa is among this prestigious group. David recently retired from his broadcast engineering role at the University of Alabama where he ran the engineering and IT department for the radio and television facilities.

Ann Collister of Montgomery is included in the inductions. Ms. Collister has a long and successful career in radio station sales and management. She is currently managing WVRV-FM.

Mr. Stanley T. Siegal will be inducted posthumously. Mr. Siegal worked at both radio and television stations, including some time behind the GM’s desk. He also provided “play by play” commentary for University of Alabama baseball and football. Later, he announced UA baseball and basketball games for the ACN Sports Network.

The luncheons are included in full conference registration and a la carte registration for either Friday or Saturday meeting attendance. Contact the ABA at 205-982-5001 to purchase additional luncheon tickets for either day.
