Details:
Duties include short and long term
planning, listening to scanners, taking phone calls, dispatching crews,
updating the assignment planner, working with managers on breaking/developing
news. Publish press releases and sharing stories on www.fox10tv.com. Monitors
Twitter and Facebook for news stories. Makes phone calls to set up stories for
reporters/anchors, developing and follow up stories. Ability to dial in live
shots, take news feeds. Maintains
story files. Establishes contacts with police and public information officials.
Updates assignment files with relevant information including addresses,
phone/pager numbers. 30%Oversees the activities and schedules of assignment editors, reporters and photographers. Provides direction and guidance on story selection and coverage. Coordinates live and tape feeds from live trucks and satellite sources. Maintains communication with news producers regarding developing and future news stories. 30%Assists in developing story ideas. Researches additional content for reporter stories and story tips. 20%Maintains story files. Establish contacts with police and public information officials. Updates assignments files with relevant information including addresses, phone/pager numbers. 20%Monitors additional news sources including newspapers, magazines, radio, television and internet. Coordinates with public and news sources by phone and in person.

Experience:
Four year degree in related field or equivalent training and /or experience. 2-3 years’ experience as a assignment editor in television news or comparable broadcast news experience.
Requirements:
Extensive knowledge regarding current events, community issues, and criminal justice system; understanding of ethical and legal issues related to news, logistics and ENG resources.
Good understanding of television news operations with fundamental understanding of television production techniques.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively outline assignments and direction of stories.
Ability to organize workflow and prioritize constantly changing coverage.
Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately.
Advanced knowledge of computer and internet research, computer assisted reporting and database research Superior organizational skills related to tracking tips, follow-ups, contacts and story files.
Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups of individuals and maintain professional demeanor during stressful situations.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure of tight deadlines and last minute changes.
