You’ll be responsible for hosting All Things Considered and Marketplace from 3-7 p.m. The producer part of the job entails researching, reporting and producing NPR-style, in-depth, local stories which air on Morning Edition and All Things Considered and publish online at WBHM.org. Participation in on-air pledge drives, occasional fill-in work, and some recording of automation breaks will also be required. This position reports to the Program Director and the News Director.
You will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English or related field and four years related experience including feature writing and production. Excellent oral and written communication skills will be required. Public radio experience and familiarity with reporting in the public radio style are desired.
WBHM is a multi-award-winning radio station with a strong commitment to in-depth regional news. Our reporters routinely win regional and national awards and their stories are regularly heard on national programs. Our News Director is Rachel Osier Lindley and NPR’s Southern Bureau Chief Russell Lewis is based at the station.
Salary range: $33,571 – $42,952 – $52,354

WBHM is a listener-supported service of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), “your NPR News station,” and home to the Alabama Radio Reading Service, a resource for the blind and print-impaired. WBHM serves a significant radio audience in Birmingham and North Central Alabama, and our online presence has grown substantially in the past year.
