Technical Media Director – WTVY, Dothan

Technical Media Director

WTVY-TV News 4, the CBS affiliate and dominant number one station in Southeast Alabama is looking for a Technical Media Director (formerly titled Production Assistant).

The position has multiple roles. This person will direct one of our newscasts. WTVY is automated, therefore the director is required to code a newscast, do any pre-production work needed (building graphics) for the show that he/she is working on.

The second part of the job will be running Master Control, helping with segmenting syndicated show/commercials to air at a later time, running live commercial breaks and learning our Traffic Management duties.

This person will need to be detail oriented, a self-starter, able to work well under deadlines and work well with others. Good written and verbal communication skills required, as is vast computer knowledge and a general understanding of technology. Experience with Ross OverDrive, VizRT, and Adobe creative suite is a plus, as is experience in a broadcast news environment.

Executive Producer – WTVY, Dothan

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

WTVY, Dothan’s #1 rated news station has an immediate opening for an energetic and experienced Executive Producer. This is NOT an entry level position. Desired candidate will have at least two years of television producing experience or news management at a commercial station. The Executive Producer will serve in a leadership role, mentoring young producers and reporters to achieve peak performance. Producing of daily newscasts is required, as well as management and oversight of other shows.
Primary responsibilities as Executive Producer include:
Strong writing & editing skills is vital.
Responsible for visual elements & accuracy for all newscasts.
Strong time management skills & ability to multi-task in a high-stress environment is essential.
Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to copy edit stories and approve scripts for reporters.
Handle weekly newsroom staff scheduling.
Work with weather and sports departments to coordinate extended coverage when necessary.
Produce news specials and oversee special projects.
Knowledge of Edius & iNews is also a plus.
Other duties as assigned by News Director.

The desired candidate is someone who will demonstrate strong news judgment, working with the News Director to shape daily and extended coverage plans. Strong editorial skills and command of the language is vital. The Executive Producer must be a leader who is an accomplished team builder, helping a young staff reach its potential. As well as supervising the staff, the Executive Producer must lead by example to motivate team members.
We have veteran anchors and managers that are always willing to help, top flight equipment and a winning culture. You’ll be responsible for hosting All Things Considered and Marketplace from 3-7 p.m. The producer part of the job entails researching, reporting and producing NPR-style, in-depth, local stories which air on Morning Edition and All Things Considered and publish online at WBHM.org. Participation in on-air pledge drives, occasional fill-in work, and some recording of automation breaks will also be required. This position reports to the Program Director and the News Director.

You will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English or related field and four years related experience including feature writing and production. Excellent oral and written communication skills will be required. Public radio experience and familiarity with reporting in the public radio style are desired.
