WTOK-TV, a Gray Television station, is looking for an aggressive full-time Sports Reporter/Anchor to join our Newscenter 11 team.

We are seeking someone who loves sports and sports stories, and is a good writer and producer. Responsibilities include reporting weeknights and anchoring sportscasts on week-ends. This person will also serve as fill-in anchor as needed on weeknights. Also this person should be a good writer, energetic with skills to communicate with viewers. Must be able to produce sportscasts, edit stories and be skilled at shooting video. Covering local sports is a priority.

The Assistant Production Director role is a demanding creative position, requiring leadership and networking skills. The APD works with the Production Director and assists with, among other things, the execution of commercials. This role may require writing, dubbing, voicing, archiving commercials and on-air announcing and board operator duties.

Required Experience:

Assist in management of commercial production staff and work load
Work with AEs and clients to create customized spec spots.
Consult with clients about creative
Write, produce, and voice commercials
Read or ad-lib to identify station, introduce and close shows, and announce station breaks
Work closely with traffic and continuity to assure all commercials air correctly
Monitor commercial content to meet legal, ethical, and decency standards.
Work with PD’s on any commercial content challenges to meet legal, ethical and decency standards.
Create any other kinds of production AEs need for presentations or wrap ups.
Assist in checking missing report nightly to correct any discrepancies in the following day’s log.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding indecency and obscenity.
Depending on skill level, work an approved and previously agreed upon air shift.
Maintain a website personality page. Must be kept up-to-date with relevant material that is appropriate for the given station.
Participate in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales staff meetings and events.
Make regular approved appearances at paid, and non-paid, station events (community events, station concerts, etc…).
Work hours likely to be staggered; meaning your day could start on 9:30 or 10 a.m. until 6:30-7 p.m. Possible to be Noon-8 p.m. on Friday’s
Be on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.

Purpose/reason for this Position:
WHNT NEWS 19 (CBS) in Huntsville (aka Rocket City), Alabama, is anticipating a future opening for a Nightside Executive Producer.
We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on individual who knows ho to craft a compelling newscast that consistently wins its time period. If you want to take your career to the next level, we may have the job for you. We are searching for an EP who will maximize the great lead-in audience that CBS delivers to our doorstep at 10pm and challenge the evening crew on a nightly basis.
The PM EP is charged with directly overseeing the content, resources and personnel of the early evening (5/6/6:30pm) and late (9&10pm) newscasts. We are looking for a creative, visionary producer with a proven track record. The ideal candidate will also be a fearless leader with strong people skills. If rehashing content from the early newscasts is okay by you, this is not the job for you. We want someone who is invigorated by breaking news and likes to eat the competition alive. You must be willing and able to oversee our product on-air, online, on mobile platforms and on social media.

Core Job Functions:
•Writing: Consistently writing clear, compelling, easy-to-understand, news stories and teases, making maximum use of video, graphics, live shots, and all the tools available to achieve superb story telling.
•Aggressive Response to Breaking News: On air, online, on social media and on all platforms.
•Quality Control: Enforcing standards and expectations of the early evening/late news team. Newscasts should be executed with minimal on-air errors and consistently meet deadlines.
•Content Development: Making sure that the evening newscasts are mining all resources to present a fresh and forward-thinking newscast that reflects a clear sense of urgency and immediacy. Coordinates with team to develop story ideas and offers innovative suggestions for story coverage/treatment, reduces repetition of stories from newscast to newscast, digs for new information to advance stories, generates unique content for assigned newscast, understands newscast audience make-up
•Produce Web/Mobile/Social Media Content: The PM EP is responsible for making sure the station’s website and social media sites are aggressively updated.
•Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Strong command of the English language, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadlines. Good communication skills and team-building skills. Ability to multi-task. Basic non-linear editing and ftp’ing.

Education Requirements:
A college degree in Journalism or Broadcast Communications or related-degree is preferred. Also prefer candidates with 3+ years experience as a producer in a commercial television station.

Physical Requirements:
Dexterity to operate a computer and other such equipment. Vision to review and approve news scripts, view news, etc.

Engineering Notebook – Special Events of Interest to Engineers

There are a number of events coming up that engineers should take note of.

The ABA Engineering Academy will be conducting the Radio Engineering Class July 14th – 18th.  The Television Engineering Class will be held September 8th – 12th.

These classes are offered by the ABA Engineering Academy at no cost and are held at the ABA Training Center in Hoover.

If you are involved with audio mixing at your station or church, Presonus will be offering a free road show twice in July.  On Wednesday July 23rd they will be at Bailey Brothers Music 4673 Highway 280 East Birmingham and Thursday July 24th it will be at Eat My Beats 4755 Jug Factory Road Tuscaloosa.

The ABA will hold its annual convention Friday and Saturday August 15th and 16th.  On Saturday the ABA Engineering Academy will host an “Engineering Seminar” covering the topic “Audio and Video over IP”.  Four great presentations will be offered by Comrex, Wheatstone, TVU Networks and Gates Air.  Registration for the seminar is only $30.00 which includes lunch.

There will also be a large engineering exhibit hall with plenty of vendors.  This will be held at the Hyatt Regency/Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.

Demonstrated ability to perform live, on-scene reporting making use of taped inserts and live interviews. Complete daily videotaped stories to deadline. Establish news contacts/sources in coverage area. Generate story ideas. Coordinate ideas for series/special reports. Interview news sources to obtain material for reports. Produce high quality news video and sound with the ability to edit the material for broadcast. Care for and maintain all assigned equipment including basic vehicle care. QUALIFICATIONS:

1. College degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, or equivalent work experience.

2. Minimum of 2 years TV news reporting experience preferred. Background in news photography preferred..

3. Able to maneuver heavy equipment successfully in the field, particularly on sites with difficult accessibility.

4. Geographic knowledge of coverage area.

5. Strong packaging, writing and communication skills.

6. Able to attend work regularly.

7. Available to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.

8. Possession of a valid Driver’s License and able to operate company vehicles in a safe manner.
