SPORTS DIRECTOR

WTVY, Dothan’s #1-rated television station, is looking for its next Sports Director. If you love local sports, this is the job for you. We cover everything from youth sports to the SEC, spanning three states. We’ve got the resources, the staff and the tradition. Now, we’re looking for someone to join our team and take our product to an even higher level.

WTVY-TV is the top-rated station in the market. We have the resources to back it up, with a live truck, satellite truck and three backpack live units. WTVY features the largest news staff in the market, with nearly 30 people, including three in sports.
We’re not looking for someone to rack up national highlights. This is a job for someone with talent, creativity, strong organizational skills and a desire to lead. We’re looking for the stories you won’t see on the AP wire.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities Include:
Lead a 3-person department
Anchor three shows per day over two separate networks; WTVY (CBS) and WRGX (NBC)
Coordinate with news department to cover most important stories of the day, sometimes with team coverage
Producing and co-hosting our award-winning 35-minute H.S. Football program, Friday Night Football
Producing and hosting our 20-minute college football program, GameNight, on Saturday nights
Strong reporting skills
Camera presence & strong vocal skills are imperative
Strong writing, shooting, editing and live skills is essential for this position
Make connections within the community to generate exclusive sports content & consistent local product on all platforms
Excellent social media skills – Facebook and Twitter are a huge part of our daily routine
Ability to produce on air and online – our web component is a vital connection with our viewers
Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
Knowledge of Panasonic P2 cameras, Edius, Sonic Foundry Vegas and INews is also a plus
Some Travel Required
Some lifting of heavy camera equipment required
Some weekend and holiday work required

This position will be responsible for the overall management of creating and
disseminating local digital journalism content across multiple distribution
platforms including two broadcast television stations. Insure journalistic
standards are uniformly applied to all digital journalism content. In addition
to delivering content, this position will manage the associated marketing,
technology and production processes and systems necessary to support this
mission critical effort. Assure that the presentation and marketing of digital
journalism content adheres to the television station’ s strategic brand. Manage
the maintenance and operation of technical equipment needed for the collection,
editing and presentation of digital content.

Experience:
B. A. or B. S. from an accredited college or university. 5 years or more
senior level management experience at a network affiliated local television
station. Preference of that management experience as a News Director. First hand
knowledge and understanding of basic journalistic standards and ethical decision
making experience is an important skill for this position. A strong
understanding of product branding and promotion is essential to the position.
Strong leadership and management skills are critical as this position has
oversight for a variety of station operations, including those typically
associated with the news, marketing and technical engineering departments. The
ideal candidate for this position has strong organization and delegation skills
as well as a creative vision for the future of local journalism based content
creation and distribution.

an entry level management job, the person who fills this position will be
responsible for the creation and distribution of local content across multiple
platforms. The Director of Digital Journalism will manage news, marketing,
production and engineering process for the television station and website.
Experience and clear understanding of web content and search engine optimization
is required. This position requires a broadcast journalism degree from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of five years senior level
management as a News or Marketing Director.

METEOROLOGIST/DIGITAL CONTENT PRODUCER

WBRC Fox6 News has an immediate opening for a meteorologist and digital content producer.
This position will contribute to the market’s leading weather team by preparing and presenting forecasts on broadcast and digital platforms, primarily on weekends.
In addition to forecasting and other weather duties, this candidate also will publish daily news content to WBRC’s market-leading digital platforms — web, mobile and social. The candidate should have experience writing original news stories for web, proofing others’ web stories, clipping and livestreaming video and compiling slideshows. Experience posting to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram also is required. A bachelor’s or graduate degree in meteorology is require. Two years of broadcast weather performance is also required.
