JOB SUMMARY: Provide planning, organization, and direction to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of the television station.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the station’s broadcast engineering department.
* Manage the day-to-day technical operations of the station.
* Oversee the operation and maintenance of all broadcast station equipment.
* Evaluate, prioritize, and correct equipment deficiencies in a timely manner.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Training/Equipment: Commercial digital/analog television broadcast equipment and technologies, high power transmission technologies, satellite transmission technologies.
Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: Position requires working in confined spaces; frequent climbing of ladders, and frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Must have flexibility to work overnights and weekends. Highly automated, highly computer intensive environment.

Announcer/Producer, Managing Editor – WBHM, Birmingham

ANNOUNCER / PRODUCER
You’ll be responsible for hosting All Things Considered and Marketplace from 3-7 p.m. The producer part of the job entails researching, reporting and producing NPR-style, in-depth, local stories which air on Morning Edition and All Things Considered and publish online at WBHM.org. Participation in on-air pledge drives, occasional fill-in work, and some recording of automation breaks will also be required. This position reports to the Program Director and the News Director.

You will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English or related field and four years related experience including feature writing and production. Excellent oral and written communication skill will be required. Public radio experience and familiarity with reporting in the public radio style are desired.

WBHM is a multi-award-winning radio station with a strong commitment to in-depth regional news. Our reporters routinely win regional and national awards and their stories are regularly heard on national programs. Our News Director is Rachel Osier Lindley and NPR’s Southern Bureau Chief Russell Lewis is based at the station.

Salary range: $33,571 – $42,952 – $52,354

MANAGING EDITOR, SOUTHERN EDUCATION DESK AT WBHM
You will oversee the work of producers from full partner and contributing partner public radio and public TV stations in the southern region. The Managing Editor will be an active convener of education coverage, helping to create a coherent editorial perspective that can be shared in the region and nationwide.

-Plan, assign and edit content for the Southern Education Desk for TV, radio and digital platforms.
-Manage relationships with partner stations and producers.
-Manage and expand relationships with other potential partner media outlets, including NPR and PBS.
-Manage the production flow and timing of coverage, and oversee budget for freelance reports and related costs.
-Maintain records and provide documentation for grant and funding reports.
-Edit final content to assure accuracy and quality.

The Managing Editor will be responsible for finding connections among communities to fully develop stories in context and will manage the production flow. This includes repurposing stories from different communities to fit together to air on multiple stations and networks.

The decisions made the Managing Editor must be of a sound journalistic nature and will reflect on the reputation of CPB, NPR, PBS, partner stations, and WBHM. The success of this position will have a direct impact on the long-term success of the Southern Education Desk.

Salary range: $45,198 – $58,760 – $72,322
