WAAY-TV has an immediate opening for a Multimedia Producer.

WAAY-TV, ABC 31 is a multimedia broadcast station that delivers relevant news and information along with top rated entertainment programs to Huntsville and the surrounding Tennessee Valley communities. The station’s mission is to use the power of its television and digital platforms to deliver news and information that helps the area thrive. WAAY – TV is located in Huntsville, AL on Monte Sano Boulevard and operates a news bureau in Florence, AL.

Primary Responsibilities

This position is responsible for writing compelling copy, creating exciting newscasts and working closely with Reporters to build a dynamic newscast. Must have outstanding storytelling abilities, sharp news judgment, high ethical and journalistic standards. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be able to navigate all aspects of online news and social media; be able to communicate properly with target audiences. Will be required to participate in story generation daily; assist in evaluating and developing ever changing online content delivery methods and systems. Other duties will apply as needed.

Coordination
Works closely with News Director, Assignment Manager, Web Content Manager and other news personnel.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or equivalent.
2 years’ experience as a Producer or similar position.
A valid Alabama drivers’ license and good driving record.
Ability to carry heavy video equipment in locations with difficult access.
Bilingual a plus.

Broadcast Engineer – University of Alabama

The University of Alabama, on behalf of the Center for Public Television and Radio and WVUA-TV, seeks applications from dynamic individuals for the position of Broadcast Engineer, headquartered in the University’s newly completed Digital Media Center. Housed within the University’s Bryant Denny Stadium, the DMC opened this year as the new home for the University’s professional media assets and a state-of-the-art, hands-on laboratory for students. Comprised of Alabama Public Radio, the Center for Public Television, and WVUA-TV, the DMC engages faculty, staff and students in the production of award-winning, multi-media programming designed to inspire, educate, and inform Alabamians. This position functions as a Broadcast Engineer for: Alabama Public Radio, a public radio network reaching approximately 80 percent of the state; the Center for Public Television, a production center for both non-commercial and commercial multi-media series and specials; and WVUA-TV, one of just two full power commercial stations in the country licensed to a university. The position is required to maintain a high operational standard relative to technological innovation, strategic investigation of current and emerging distribution platforms, maintenance and upkeep of various broadcast and computer technologies, compliance with FCC broadcast regulations and general knowledge of digital broadcast, mobile, computer and online industries . This position will be responsible for achieving and maintaining first-class broadcast standards for the production and transmission of programming for the Center for Public Television and Radio and for WUOA/WVUA-TV. Reporter/MMJ – Raycom News Network

WSFA 12 News and Raycom Media are searching for a dynamic reporter to lead our coverage of statewide news from the Alabama capital. The successful candidate will report daily on WSFA/Montgomery, WBRC/Birmingham, WAFF/Huntsville and WTVM/Columbus–all part of the Raycom News Network in Alabama. We are looking for someone with previous experience and interest in political and public policy journalism. Developing contacts, breaking stories and leading investigations with statewide impact are a must. Candidates should have MMJ skills and a proven track record doing multiple live reports on a daily basis. Time management is critical as is the ability to turn stories quickly for multiple newscasts. Some statewide travel will also be part of this job. The reporter will be expected to provide expert analysis of complicated statewide issues and will play a large role in election coverage. Television Technicians – Alabama Public Broadcasting, Birmingham

Alabama Public Television’s is seeking two full-time Television Technicians to assist in our transmitter equipment operations area. One position is located in Jefferson County (Birmingham) and the other position is located in Crenshaw County. APT operates 9 transmitter sites with 18 transmitters, over 2200 miles of two-way digital microwave and a satellite distribution network.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited junior college or technical school, or High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience operating and maintaining broadcast transmitter equipment. The individuals will be utilizing computer and technical skills to assist in the operations, maintenance and repair of electronic television production and broadcasting equipment.
