Job Description:
Hearst Television is looking for on air operators who are self-motivated, detail oriented, and a team player with strong interpersonal skills. On air operators are responsible for master control functions including monitoring multiple air channels, acquiring, ingesting and preparing content, executing playlists, maintaining regulatory compliance, assuring quality control of on air product, and documenting transmission events. This position will be located at WVTM in Birmingham, AL.

Job Responsibilities:
•Monitors multiple channels to ensure regulatory compliance and quality signals.
•Maintains program and transmitter logs.
•Executes, edits, updates, and appends playlists.
•Acquires content from various distributors.
•Prepares content for air.
•Reports equipment issues and transmission discrepancies.

Qualification Requirements:
•Operational knowledge and experience with master control activities and functions.
•Experience with master control automation preferred.
•Prior exposure to television station operations and newscast production a plus.

Position:Maintenance Technician

Job Description: Hearst Television is looking for experience broadcast maintenance technicians. The Maintenance Technician maintains the technical integrity of the station’s on-air signals and its equipment from acquisition to distribution. This position supports all station efforts in-house and on remote locations. This position will be located at WVTM in Birmingham, AL.

Job Responsibilities:

•Maintains digital transmitters, microwave central receive sites, satellite antenna systems, signal distribution and routing systems, processing systems, monitoring devices, and automation systems.
•Maintains production equipment including robotic camera system, production switcher, play out servers, graphics devices, lighting systems, weather graphics and weather systems, audio consoles, microphones, and IFBs.
•Maintains news-gathering equipment including ENG cameras, field gear, ENG, DSNG, and SNG trucks, editing systems, and support devices.
•Maintains support equipment including master and sub switchers, monitors, videotape machines, XDCAM decks, computer systems, microphones, and intercoms.
•Conducts troubleshooting, installation, research, documentation, and cabling tasks.

Qualification Requirements:

•Should have 2+ years of experience working as a maintenance technician at a commercial television station with extensive experience in maintaining and troubleshooting a wide variety of broadcast equipment,
•Must have a solid background in broadcast television systems, transmission, and satellite communications,
•Must have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to repair equipment down to the circuit level,
•Must have knowledge of computers, computer systems, and networking,
•Must have advanced skill with video production, microwave systems, IT infrastructure, and station automation,
•Desired to have experience maintaining and troubleshooting digital broadcast transmitters,
•Desired to have experience with Autocad for system design and layout,
•Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work on rooftops and in confined spaces,
•Must be flexible to work various days and non-standard shifts as assigned,
•Must have the ability to work effectively with other team members and independently,
•Must be capable of following instructions, verbal and written,
•Must have the ability work with minimal supervision,
•Must have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and
•Must have excellent vision (with or without corrective lenses) with ability to read and distinguish colors.

Education:

•Associates degree in electronic engineering or a minimum of two-years of an accredited technical electronics school equivalent.
•SBE CPBE (or better) certification a plus.

Job Description: This position is responsible for managing the IT operation at a top 50 broadcast television station that is part of a corporate WAN. This position will be located at WVTM in Birmingham, AL.

Job Responsibilities:
•Manage all station IT operations including supervision and direction of IT support technicians
•Maintain LAN/IT infrastructure, installation and support of network hardware & software
•Consult with end users and install desktop, laptop and workstation computers based on an analysis of the end user’s needs
•Provide technical guidance and support to end users
•Consult with end users to determine and troubleshoot hardware, software and system problems,
•Advise on and perform upgrades, after consultation, tailored to the end user’s specific needs
•Analyze, advise and implement corporate data back-up, disaster recovery and security procedures
•Control and manage hardware and software inventory
•Design and integrate complex systems
•Occasional travel to two news bureau locations

Experience Requirements:
•Experience with all current Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems
•Experience with network and stand-alone printers and digital copiers
•Experience with mobile device support & connectivity
•Experience with Enterprise and web-based applications
•Experience with VPN, Cisco equipment, TCP/IP and subnets, NAS, LAN Management, MPLS and dedicated circuits

Qualifications Requirements:
•Seasoned IT professional with proven ethical work experience and the desire to succeed
•Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment with constant deadlines
•Minimum 5 years in LAN & WAN systems administration and management
•Demonstrate professional interpersonal and communication skills
•Possess the positive attitude of a collaborative team player
•Experience in the television broadcast setting is preferred
