Engineering Notebook: The Art of Live Audio Mixing

Learn about live audio mixing technology

The Alabama Broadcasters Engineering Academy announces a special one-day seminar covering audio mixing for broadcast engineers, church sound crews and anyone interested in sound mixing.

If you are involved in mixing audio for live events or recording then you need to attend this special seminar.  It will cover items such as microphone selection and placement; proper operation of mixing consoles; sound checks; using digital audio workstations; and much more.  This will be a hands-on technical seminar with actual equipment presented by professional sound engineers with years of experience.

The seminar is offered by the ABA Engineering Academy at no cost and will be held on Saturday December 13th from 9:00 AM till 4:00 PM.  Lunch will be provided.  Churches are encouraged to bring their volunteer sound crews.

Location will be the ABA Engineering Classroom at the ABA offices, 2180 Parkway Lake Driver, Hoover.

Experience and a solid understanding of non-linear timeline editing in a file- based network system preferred.

Must be flexible about days/hours and be willing to perform a variety of tasks.

Required Education/Training
A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred or relevant work experience. A solid understanding of Windows and general computer knowledge required.

Cross-cluster Executive Morning Show Producer in Birmingham, Al

iHeartMedia, Birmingham seeks Full-Time executive Morning show producer. The ideal candidate is someone who is plugged into their community, and understands what people are talking about at church, Target, football games, and around the dinner table with their families. The ability to both navigate and create content on sites like Facebook, and twitter are all a must. This position requires understanding of minds of the consumers of multiple formats: Country, A/C and News-Talk. You should also be a ravenous consumer of all media, from web sites like TMZ and the Blaze, to TV shows like The Voice, Sports Center, and the Five. Finally, maintenance of an ever-growing smart-phone contact list of top shelf local and national celebrities and guests is critical.

The position would require assisting in the booking, planning and execution of three high profile morning shows, general promotional support, board operation and production.

The following are additional desirable traits that we are looking for. No applicant will have every single one of these, but if you don’t have at least most of them, we are probably not a good fit for each other:

Required Skills:

Able to work well under pressure while still wearing a smile.
An understanding of social media and how to use it to grow the show.
A desire to be an integral part of three major-market-sounding shows.
Someone who is not mic shy, but also knows the role of the producer is not to get between the host and the listener.
Someone who understands and respects Alabama culture, and the target listener for each of the respective brands.
The ability to keep several plates spinning at once.
Great promotional ideation.
Someone who is not afraid to get up very, VERY early in the morning, every weekday morning.

Required Experience:

3+ years’ experience producing a show, preferably a morning show in a rated market.
Radio production experience.
Quick audio editing skills, Adobe Audition preferred.
Experience with NexGen.
Experience running an audio board for a live radio program.
Phone screening experience.
Guest booking experience.

This is not a regular 9 to 5 job, and it is definitely not a job for beginners.

Engineering Notebook: 2015 Schedule of ABA Engineering Academy Classes

The Schedule for Broadcast Engineering classes and seminars presented by the ABA Engineering Academy has been set for 2015.

The classes are primarily designed for those interested in learning more about the technical side of radio and/or television broadcasting and having a desire to move into the engineering area. In the past seasoned engineers have also attended for a refresher plus to pick up valuable information concerning to new technology.

There will also be a number of “special technical subject” one-day seminars scheduled throughout the year. We welcome any suggestions on other topics you feel would be of benefit to engineers.

The Radio Broadcast Engineering
Class will be held the week of February 16 – 20 and repeated July 13 -17.

The Television Broadcast Engineering Class will be held the week of March 23 – 27 and repeated October 5 – 9.

A special 3-day Radio Advanced Class will be held March 9 – 11 and Television Advance Class April 6 – 8. These classes will cover more detail theory and maintenance items.
