Broadcast Engineer/IT Manager – Central Alabama area

CENTRAL ALABAMA TELEVISION STATION seeks Broadcast Engineer / IT Manager. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of increasingly responsible duties in the area of television broadcast engineering and a desire to excel.

Responsibilities:

•Operate and maintain the technical facility in a cost effective manner and in compliance with FCC rules and regulations.
•Provide management level support in technical operations related to television broadcasting.
•Ascertain need and implement installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment.
•Complete projects by coordinating resources and timetables.

Knowledge / Skills:

•Working knowledge of television broadcast technical operations and equipment including audio, video, server based record and play systems (hardware and software), switching, storage systems, networking, routers, encoders, decoders, automation, microwave, fiber, satellite, RF principles, broadcast transmission equipment, and security.
•Three to five years television broadcast experience is required.
•College or technical school graduate is preferred; SBE certification a plus.
•Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve computer and technical problems at the component and system level.
•Ability to communicate clearly and easily with management, users, and vendors with varying levels of technical expertise regarding technical developments, issues and station operating needs.

Multimedia Producer – WHNT News 19, Huntsville

WHNT News 19 (CBS) in Huntsville, Alabama, is anticipating an opening for a Multimedia Producer.

We are looking for a creative, visionary producer with a proven track record. We want someone who is a fierce competitor and likes to win.

In addition to the standard duties of producers in the industry (write, gather information, select stories, decide order and treatment of stories), the producers of the WHNT NEWS 19 newsroom are responsible for developing an overall style and identity for their assigned newscast with a keen focus on building the station’s brand, “Taking Action, Getting Results.”

We’re not looking for show stackers, we’re looking for craftspeople who will bring a daily vision for their newscasts to the newsroom and a clear plan on how they’re going to deliver on that vision.

Core Job Functions:
•Writing: Consistently writing factual/accurate, clear, compelling, easy-to-understand, news stories and teases, making maximum use of video, graphics, live shots, and all the tools available to achieve superb story telling.
•Aggressive Response to Breaking News: On air, online, and on other platforms.
•Successfully Produce one or more Newscasts Daily: Newscasts should be executed with out on air errors and meet all deadlines prior to air, including timing of newscast, executing changes as needed
•Utilization of Graphics: Able to select appropriate graphics to help explain and showcase stories while reinforcing station branding, and enhancing storytelling by use and placement
•Suggestion & Development of Story Ideas: Coordinates with team to develop story ideas and offers innovative suggestions for story coverage, reduces repetition of stories from newscast to newscast, digs for new information to advance stories, generates unique content for assigned newscast, understands newscast audience make-up
•Brand Development: Each producer will be assigned responsibilities toward developing the “Taking Action, Getting Results” brand. Producers will research viewer-submitted “Action” stories to determine whether the station can help viewers get “Results.” Set up interviews, as needed, for reporters, anchors and photojournalists. Oversee story developments through to completion and on air execution.
•Produce Web Content: Each producer will be assigned specific daily responsibilities for updating the station website.
•Other duties as assigned.

It’s not clear yet what shift the person hired for this position will work. It’ll be dependent on where your skills are best suited and the potential for other internal reassignments.

We are looking for an aggressive team-player who can produce good stories under tight deadlines. Must have valid driver’s license and be able to operate ENG news vehicles, have at least one year shooting experience, and technical knowledge of editing and photo equipment. Responsibilities will involve editing, shooting general sports stories & games, lives shots and natural sound packages. Must be able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 pounds on a regular basis.
