Operations and Engineering Manager – Southern California network affiliate

Job Description: Southern California network affiliate is seeking a proven Broadcast Engineer to provide hands-on maintenance and supervision of other technical personnel.

The applicant will work closely with news and production to improve the functionality of existing automated workflows, and to identify areas where new processes and procedures can be implemented to increase throughput and to decrease human touch points. This is a great job opportunity for an established chief engineer that wants a change of scenery or an assistant chief that is ready to step up to the “big seat”.

Minimum Job Skills: The successful candidate should have demonstrable knowledge of:
• Multi-channel station automation and servers
• File-based newsroom workflows and editing
• HD routing switchers, production switchers and multi-viewers
• Satellite commercial delivery systems – PitchBlue, Pathfire, etc.
• Card-based ENG systems
• Broadcast Encoders, Mux & IRDs
• Thorough knowledge of FCC Rules & regulations
• Excellent understanding of master control operations and ability to supervise
• Understanding of ATSC / 8VSB signals, MPEG2, DOLBY AC3, CALM ACT, EAS, CAP, IP Video, HDTV, ENG and STL Microwave transmission.
Additional Job Skills: The successful candidate should also have an understanding of:
• Windows & MAC OS
• TCP/IP
• Understanding of VPNs, VLANs and port routing
Minimum Job Requirements:
• Supervisory experience
• The ability to work successfully with peer managers
• Degree in engineering, engineering technology or a related field. Experience may be substituted for the degree.
• 3-5 years in a supervisory position
• The ability to lift 50 lbs
• Requires individual who is highly organized, detail-oriented and able to work under pressure with little or no supervision.
• Evening and weekend work required
• Some travel as needed.
