IT SYSTEMS SPECIALIST II (FIELD IT ENGINEER) – AL PUBLIC TELEVISION

This position is officially classified as IT Systems Specialist II in the state system but will function as a Field IT Engineer within Alabama Public Television (APT). This position will handle the installation, operation, and maintenance of network and computer software and hardware related to our broadcasting systems. This role involves travel to remote sites and requires a blend of technical expertise and practical problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and install hardware and software for network infrastructure
• Collaborate with Field Engineers on tasks and technical guidance
• Maintain general site maintenance for specific locations (WCIQ – Mt. Cheaha and Bald Rock microwave hop sites)
• Manage and update a comprehensive list of site IP addresses
• Provide 24/7/365 availability for emergency off-air outages related to network
infrastructure
• Work independently, often under time constraints
• Communicate daily with the Director of Engineering about infrastructure status and
needs

Minimum Qualifications

• An Associate’s Degree from an accredited* college or university in Information Technology •Two (2) years of experience in the design, maintenance, or support of IT systems in one or
more of the following specialty areas:
• Database Management
• Mainframe/Midrange systems
• Network Infrastructure (e.g., local/wide area network)
• Telecommunications systems
• Systems Administration
• Security & Compliance

*NOTE: Additional education and/or experience above which is minimally required, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience in broadcast engineering and/or
remote production engineering experience.
• Mid-level proficiency of computer operating systems (Mac, Windows 10 and 11) and
servers and data infrastructure including ethernet and fiber in support of IP and
communications protocols.
• Five years of experience maintaining technical equipment in a television broadcast,
live sports environment, or post-production facility.
• Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot broadcast technical equipment and
computer hardware and software
• Experience with radio frequency (RF)
• Relevant licenses/certifications (Society of Broadcast Engineers member, Microsoft
Systems Engineer, ARUBA Certified Switch Professional ACSP, etc.)
• Ability to frequently move/lift up to 50lbs

The salary range is $55,375.20 – $107,824.80 (Commensurate with experience)

Please note: This position requires extensive travel within Alabama, with up to 90% of the time spent on the road. Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, which will make up about 5% of the travel time.

NEWS PRODUCER – ABC 33/40

WBMA / ABC 33/40 has an immediate opening for a creative News Producer! In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day production of our newscasts. This position will also work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk and Anchors on the newscast and its content. In this position you will determine the content and flow of newscasts, work with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories and develop content for our web site.

The ideal candidate will have:

CHIEF ENGINEER – WBMA/WTTO/WABM

Our team at WBMA/WTTO/WABM is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee all engineering functions of the station. A qualified candidate will coordinate or perform maintenance of computer and broadcast equipment of the television broadcasting station.

Responsibilities:

Oversee all engineering functions of the station, including, planning of future equipment installations, requirements, and budgetary recommendations
Manage training for engineering staff.
Supervise maintenance of computer software, hardware, and local area network applications
Ensure software license compliance and all software versions are up to date
Supervise preventive maintenance and/or troubleshooting of broadcast electronical equipment, including but not limited to, cameras, audio and video equipment, microwave transmitters and receivers, satellite receivers, and computing equipment
Supervise and/or perform transmitter maintenance
Work with Station and Corporate leadership to ensure security and FCC compliance
Responsible for ensuring quality broadcast operations including on air, news gathering and production.
Model good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Maintaining a fun, collaborative and effective work environment.
Maximize uptime by managing repairs and preventive maintenance on digital and analog systems and transmission facilities.
Assist and advise the Director of Engineering & Operations.
What skills do you need to be successful in our role?

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in broadcast electrical system and equipment maintenance
Experience training and managing technicians with a positive and constructive attitude
Proficiency in evaluating, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining broadcast equipment and IT systems
Dedication to quality and time management while upholding to all FCC regulations
Hold a valid driver’s license
Capable of handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Must be flexible to accommodate shift changes including extended hours, weekends, and evenings, requires being on call after hours including weekends and holidays. Varied and extended hours may include some weekends, holidays.
Ability to work on ladders, stand for long periods of time, and lift computers or equipment up to 50 lbs.
Technical degree in electronics or a related field, or an equivalent of work and educational experience
SBE certification and A+ certification is preferred

Division Director – Membership & Pledge – APT Foundation

The Director of Membership & Pledge will be responsible for sustaining and expanding the membership base and overseeing pledge campaigns for APT as well as our public radio station, WLRH. This role is crucial in building and maintaining strong relationships with our members and donors.

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee all membership fundraising programs and contributions for APT and WLRH,
including print, digital, texting, and email campaigns. Manage the accounting for on-
air, web, call-in pledges, direct mail pledges, emails, text pledges, bank lock box
contributions, Matching Gifts programs, and CARS programs.
• Lead and manage the Membership & Pledge team, providing guidance, support, and
performance feedback.
• Respond to any escalated calls, voice messages, emails, and written correspondence
from members.
• Prepare departmental budgets for Membership & Pledge and Development.
• Seek new fundraising opportunities to increase revenue for APT and WLRH.
• Provide monthly donor data to the Contributor Development Partnership (CDP) and
evaluates ROAR reports provided by CDP to determine fundraising opportunities.
• Provide pledge program performance data to Management, Public Information, PBS,
and to Program Services during all pledge drives as representative of APT.
• Work with Development Department to analyze membership records and select best
candidates for Major Gifts and Planned Giving mailings.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, accounting, communications, or related
field
• Proven experience in membership management, preferably in a nonprofit
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in CRM software such as Allegiance, Satori and Sage Payment Solutions
