For the third consecutive year, the Alabama Broadcasters Association Education Foundation will award $5,000 Education Debt Assistance Grants to help broadcasters pay down student loans. There are five of these $5,000 grants available currently.
All five recipients will be announced in June. Applications are being accepted from May 9 through close of business on May 31, 2022.
Previous recipients are not eligible.
Previous applicants may apply again.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be currently employed at an Alabama broadcast radio or television station and have an intent to remain in the business and in the state;
• Employer (radio or television station) must be a current member of the Alabama Broadcasters Association;
• Must have completed a minimum of two years of employment (minimum of 20+ hours per week) with an Alabama broadcast radio or television station;
• Must submit a letter of application that addresses the following: Why did you choose a career in broadcasting? Why is this grant important to you? What is the future of broadcasting in Alabama and how to you plan to advance the profession?
• Must submit a letter of support from the current employer signed by the local manager (if less than one year of employment at current position, an additional letter from a previous employer where you worked a year or more may be provided to meet the two-year requirement);
• Must provide proof of graduation from a university, college or technical school by supplying a copy of transcripts or degree certificate;
• Must provide proof of current loan balance (documentation will remain confidential);
Grant will be paid directly to the financial institution holding the loan and recipients are responsible for all related taxes.
